At this meeting, we will be looking at the recommendations from the report “Lasers for Productivity” which was issued in draft format in March 2017.  There were 4 recommendations calling for implementation by the sector, as follows:

Skills & Training:

Significantly increasing vocational training, building laser processing into Further Education and funding more apprenticeships

Access to Finance:

Easing the purchase of capital equipment, perhaps through Innovate UK loans or other flexible and innovative funding models

Process Demonstration & Customisation for SMEs:

Demonstration of proof-of-concept and proof-of-process to help SMEs take sound Return on investment decisions based on Laser Materials Processing implementation

Laser & Laser Process Innovation:

Making sure the UK is at the leading edge of technology and process development to maintain a competitive edge

We will consider the detailed questions relating to the above recommendations and will link them to forecasts of the “ask” from funding bodies and the matched funding that the sector will put in. Also, there is an opportunity to look at the geographical issues and identify areas of deficit or surplus.
