Shortage of laser quality steel

According to Thomas Rainer of Voestalpine, an Austrian-based metal processing company with its own steelmaking facilities, there is currently a general shortage of laser quality steels from most mills including their own.

"Voestalpine produces a limited quantity of LASER ALFORM grades," he said. "The shortage has resulted in lower hot rolled quantities for 2007, to the point where we have already allocated our stocks to existing customers."
