Specialised Designs Ltd (a subsidiary of Croft Engineering) develops anti-fuel theft device

With Middle Eastern conflicts sparking ever higher oil prices, a unique - but cheap - 'syphon-sound' device that permanently stops thieves draining lorry fuel tanks is attracting international inquires.

Specialised Designs Ltd, a subsidiary of commercial filter makers Croft Engineering Services, is based in Risley, Warrington U.K. The 'syphon-sound' is laser-cut and fits in seconds into the neck of any fuel tank without tools or adhesives. Once fitted the device can never be removed yet it does not impede filling-up and the kit comes with a further external device to readily permit the tank contents to be monitored for revenue purposes. "There are no draw-backs with our anti-syphon," states director Neil Burns. "We believe it is the most advanced of its type. You simply fit it and forget it."
