RE Cooke's new factory

RE Cooke recently moved into the purpose-built 23,000 sq ft factory, paving the way for major expansion both in terms of production capacity and employees.

Burton MP Janet Dean has officially opened the new £1.6 M factory in Stretton Business Park, Staffordshire, by pressing the button on a state-of-the-art laser cutting machine. The £0.5 M Bystronic Byspeed is part of a £900,000 investment in equipment and machinery at the new factory, which also includes a new power coating paint plant.

Operations Director Bruce Cresswell explained: "The official opening of the factory marks a milestone in many years' work planning this expansion and selling our old site in Shobnall Street in Burton for housing to unlock the capital needed to fund this move.

"The building was handed over to us both on time and within budget and we have been running both sites in tandem since Christmas to ensure the continuity and on going quality of production for our customers. The old site has now been closed and we are fully up and running in the new factory.

"This move gives us the additional capacity to grow the business both in terms of the breadth and volume of work that we can handle as well as expanding the workforce and creating more jobs for local skilled people.

"As with many businesses in the engineering industry, we face stiff competition from the Far East in particular and the investment involved in this move was vital to enable us to update our production processes and put us in a position of strength to compete on the worldwide stage in terms of flexibility and quality.

Janet Dean added: "I was delighted to have been asked to officially open the new factory and greatly welcome the company's decision to invest in a new building and state of the art equipment. This is good for employment and good for Burton."

RE Cooke has been established in Burton for more than 70 years and produces high precision metal components for the military, manufacturing, automotive, aerospace, rail and electronics industries.
