Two new Rofin laser marking systems

Rofin has recently introduced of two recently developed laser systems aimed primarily at marking applications but with broader application in mind.

Fibre Laser (PowerLine F).

The PowerLine F is a q-switched Yb fibre laser operating at ~1065 nm, optimized for marking applications. The compact air-cooled fibre source offers low cost of ownership with long projected lifetimes. The system comprises the laser head (only 380mm long, see figure), the galvo unit and two 19" rack mount units: one houses the power supplies and the fibre laser itself, with terminal, keyswitch and E-stop; the other houses an industrial pc. The complete package weighs 35kg, of which the laser head is 10kg.

With pulse lengths typically >100ns (@20kHz) and M2 <1.8 the fibre laser lends itself well to a wide variety of applications including colour changing (thermochemical and foaming) of most popular industrial plastics, surface ablation of lacquers/coatings and annealing of stainless steel and other metals. The relatively long pulse also makes high speed engraving possible.

The fibre laser is available either as Class 4 (ready for integration), or Class 1 installed within a Rofin supplied turnkey handler.

End-pumped Diode Laser (PowerLine E-Air)

The PowerLine E-Air is a Q-switched end-pumped Nd:YVO4 laser operating at 1064nm, optimized for marking applications. The E-Air laser is Peltier cooled, negating the requirement for the internal water loop traditionally employed.

The compact air-cooled source offers low cost of ownership requiring minimal maintenance and proven reliability. The complete system (compact laser head, galvo and rack mount units, as for the PowerLine F) weighs 50kg, of which the laser head is 19kg.

With pulse lengths typically <10ns (@10kHz) the E-Air laser lends itself well to a wide variety of marking applications. The relatively short pulses allow high quality precision engraving of most metals with very small HAZ and very little recast material.

The PowerLine E is available either as Class 4 (ready for integration), or Class 1 installed within a Rofin supplied turnkey handler.
