Spectra-Physics introduces New Explorer™

Newport Corp.'s Spectra-Physics Lasers Division has launched two additions to its Explorer™ family of innovative low power, actively Q-switched lasers. The first uses Vanadate as the active gain medium and deliver 20 kHz to 100 kHz of 355, 532 and 1064 nm, respectively. The second is a Nd:YLF laser and can be operated from a single shot to 20 kHz of 523.5 and 1047 nm output. "We designed our new Explorer lasers to be reliable, high performance, cost-effective solutions for a wide range of industrial and bioinstrumentation applications such as solar cell manufacturing, stereolithography, high repetition rate MALDI, marking, and scribing," said Jürgen Niederhofer, Product Manager for Spectra-Physics. "For example, the Explorer 532 is specifically targeted for Photovoltaic customers who want to equip their tools with multiple low power lasers. Using our new lasers in these solar cell manufacturing applications can help drive down costs for these customers, while at the same time ensuring the highest possible reliability for maximum throughput." The Spectra-Physics Explorer laser leverages an actively Q-switched DPSS platform that supports various wavelength options including infrared, green, ultraviolet and deep ultraviolet. Designed for high volume, automated manufacturing, the rugged OEM laser platform provides hands-free operation in a wide range of environments. The laser cavity is free of organics to ensure maximum reliability. It features a removable output window that can be easily changed in the field by the customer. In addition the Explorer provides a TEM00 output beam, which allows for tight focusing and high spatial resolution. With a pulse-to-pulse stability of less than 3% rms, many applications will benefit from a significantly improved signal-to-noise ratio. An integrated pump diode and a 40 MHz Q-switch driver power the Explorer. The pump diode is a Spectra-Physics ProLite® fiber coupled single emitter that offers up to 5W of 808 nm output. Fiber coupling provides key benefits to customers including interchangeability and superior thermal management. The diode lasers have also gone through rugged lifetime testing to ensure long, reliable laser operation. The Explorer's power supply also offers several benefits to the customers. It features 24 VDC in, an On/Off and safety interlock switch. It also supports multiple software command sets to enable straight forward product integration. Customers can interface with the Explorer power supply either through a RS 232 software interface or via analog TTL control signals. The compact Explorer laser head and state-of-the-art power supply deliver exceptional flexibility and versatility for ease-of-use.
