Research Positions at Purdue University

A number of research positions for PhD students and Postdoctoral Researchers are available in Prof. Xianfan Xu’s laboratory at Purdue University in West Lafayette, IN, USA.

1. Ultrafast laser diagnostics of energy transfer in nanomaterials. This project utilizes a femtosecond laser diagnostics system to investigate electron and phonon transport in nanoscale materials, such as supperlattices and quantum dots used for photovoltaic and thermoelectric energy conversion. Background and prior experience in one or more of the following areas are desirable: ultrafast laser/optics (particularly pump-probe diagnostic experiments and/or temporal pulse shaping), solid state physics, and energy transfer.

2. Laser-based nanomanufacturing. We have developed nanoscale optical antennas for concentrating light into nanoscale domain with high intensity, and use them as light sources for nano-lithography, nano-manufacturing, and materials growth. There are multiple positions in near field optics including theory, computation, and characterization using a home-built near field scanning optical microscope (NSOM or SNOM), micro and nano fabrication, photolithography, and CVD growth of nanomaterials. Background and prior experience in one or more of these areas are desirable.
