Coherent, Inc. (Santa Clara, CA) (Nasdaq: COHR) is displaying new pulsed Diode Pumped Solid State (DPSS) lasers optimized for existing and emerging laser-based processes in solar cell and module manufacturing. A range of new products is on show, covering low and high-power platforms, and providing options for infra-red, visible, or UV output wavelengths.
Three new turn-key, nanosecond pulse-duration systems are exhibited. These include the ultra-compact MATRIX laser optimized for low-power UV scribing applications, with up to 2W at 355 nm. Serving the high-power UV demands of edge isolation in c-Si production lines are new AVIA models which now offer in excess of 23W at 355 nm and 38W at 532 nm; shorter wavelengths in the green and UV provide reduced microcracking while the higher powers enable increased production throughput. For thin-film patterning, the new infra-red PRISMA will be on display. With 20W at 1064 nm, PRISMA adds to Coherent’s existing portfolio of infra-red and green lasers used extensively for thin-film P1, P2, and P3 processes.
To complement these nanosecond pulse lasers, new short-pulse picosecond lasers are also presented. These lasers are optimized for high-finesse, front-surface silicon cell processes, where reduced microcracks and heat affected zones are enabled. New picosecond lasers include the high-repetition rate (80 MHz) Paladin laser with 8W at 355 nm.
