Opportunities for UK companies cover all aspects of E-ELT construction

The UK Astronomy Technology Centre is the national centre for astronomical technology. We design and build instruments for many of the world’s major telescopes. We also project-manage UK and international collaborations. Our scientists carry out observational and theoretical research into fundamental questions such as the origins of planets and of galaxies.

In July the UK-ATC is running natinal and regional meetings to cover opportunities for companies in the area of E-Extra Large Telescope (E-ELT) design.

The main bulk of the research and development is going to be in civil and mechanical engineering but there are some opportunities for suppliers of optical coating plant (at the telescope site) and also optical systems (laser guide star systems, adaptive mirrors etc...) see flyer information below (sections on optics + infrastructure). The main optics-related research will be done through the instrument programmes and is out with the scope of these meetings.

The details for the meetings are:

  • Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, Didcot 10 July
  • Aston Court, Central Birmingham 11 July
  • Daresbury Laboratory, Warrington 14 July
  • Technium Performance Engineering, Llanelli 15 July
  • Teacher Building, Central Glasgow 16 July

You will need to sign up soon to get space on each of the dates. The RAL date on the 10 July is particularly popular and there are limited spaces remaining.
