RE Cooke win Midlands Excellence Special Category Award for Lean Efficiency

As a result of our commitment to ‘Lean Manufacturing Principles’ and having worked closely with the West Midlands Manufacturing Advisory Service (MAS) over an 18-month duration, RE Cooke have become the first ever winners of the Midlands Excellence Special Category Award for Lean Efficiency.
The event was held at the International Convention Centre in Birmingham at the end of January and was attended by 1,200 guests.

Introduced a year ago, this new Midlands Excellence award category is one of three introduced to provide recognition in specialist performance areas; the other two being innovation and sustainability.

RE Cooke were required to submit to Midlands Excellence up to five sides of evidence of their lean efficiency activities and were judged against excellence principles including a sound approach, effective deployment and positive results.

For the short-listed organizations, the rigour continued with a presentation having to be made by the RE Cooke team to an independent panel of experts at BMW’s Engine Plant in Birmingham.
On the night, the awards ceremony was a tense affair as no prior indication had been given regarding the likely winners.

The prestige award was presented to Harvey Cooke and Bruce Cresswell by James Caan, most popularly known from the BBC television series Dragons Den. Ian Neild, Chief Executive of Midlands Excellence, congratulated RE Cooke and said “Well done to everyone at RE Cooke - the judges were impressed with the company’s all-round and integrated approach to lean efficiency. This is a fantastic achievement because there was stiff competition from some excellent entries and we hope you will build on your success.”
