Towards a low carbon vehicle future

The national launch of the Low Carbon Vehicles Demonstrator programme on June 23rd marked a major step forward in proving the practicality of electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles. The programme brings together manufacturers, power companies, RDAs, councils and academic institutions to put 340 low carbon vehicles in the hands of users over the next year, in seven regions around the UK. Data from these real life trials will be used to inform future development.

Also launched in June is a new R&D competition focusing on technologies for mass market low carbon road transport. The Integrated Delivery Programme Competition 2 allocates up to £15m to fund innovative collaborative projects and proof-of-concept studies into how this can be achieved.
