Laser Optical Engineering Supports Comadit Prize at BINDT Event 2009

Laser Optical Engineering Ltd, a specialist laser based vision company supported the newly developed Comadit Prize at BINDT’s CM 2009 and MFPT 2009 event in Dublin, Ireland.

This Sixth International Conference on Condition Monitoring and Machinery Failure Prevention Technologies (CM2009 and MFPT 2009) was held on 23–25 June 2009 and, for the first time, BINDT awarded a prize for the best paper. This went to Prof Tony Hope, Chair in Construction Engineering at Southampton Solent University. He was awarded the prize in recognition of his services to Condition Monitoring.

Supporting the prize was an obvious choice for Laser Optical who have led the way with both the development of their own Strain Mapper, and more recently a 3D Strain Mapper, along with their work in Condition Monitoring. Laser Optical currently service the RNLI’s fleet of lifeboats as well as being involved with Condition Monitoring in a range of industries. Dr. Leon Lobo, Laser Optical’s Technical Manager, said ‘It is a privilege to be able to sponsor this prize. Condition Monitoring is a key part of Laser Optical’s business portfolio so it makes sense to strengthen our links with the work that BINDT is doing in this area’.

COMADIT (Condition Monitoring and Diagnostic Technology) is the specialist group within BINDT promoting best practice and exchange of knowledge within the Condition Monitoring and diagnostic community worldwide. COMADIT aims to:

  • Provide a distinct forum within BINDT, which concerns itself with all aspects of CM
  • Promote the development and application of CM technologies; propagate knowledge of CM methods through publications, seminars, conferences and training courses
  • Establish national standards for personnel training and certification in the application of CM and diagnostic technology

This prize aims to recognise the contribution an individual’s research makes to the development of Condition Monitoring. Prof. Len Gelman, chairman of the organising committee and Chair of Vibro-Acoustic Monitoring at Cranfield University said ‘Laser Optical’s support of this new award was a real boost to the event. We hope to continue the COMADIT award and find subsequent sponsors.’
