Rofin Lasers Perform in Medical Device Production

Rofin-Baasel UK Limited can be found on Stand Number 1419 at the MEDTEC 2012 Exhibition,  NEC in Birmingham between the 23rd and 24th May 2012. Visitors to the Rofin stand will see first-hand how the new Performance has re-defined the standards for manual laser welding.

Once again a key contributor to this year’s MEDTEC exhibition they will use the venue to showcase the latest examples of marking and welding systems from their extensive range of laser sources and solutions available for the medical device industry.

This latest version of the Performance features a novel working chamber access concept, as well as innovative weld-assist systems such as SPEEDmode™, BURSTmode™ and Pulse Ramping.

The new Performance laser will weld all of the materials commonly used within the Medical Device Industry including platinum, gold, silver, stainless steel and titanium. A laser weld is strong and pure even in areas where it would be hard to gain access through any other joining technique. More often than not if you can see the joint you can weld it.

The EasyMark II system from Rofin uses a diode-pumped Nd:YVO4 or fibre laser source, both of which are capable of marking the wide range of metal and plastic components typically found within the medical device industry.

Lasers provide the benefits of non-contact, abrasion-resistant, permanent marking with predictable and consistent results. The EasyMark II system can be used to generate alpha-numeric content, vector or rastered graphics, grey-scale, bar codes or 2D data matrix codes. With a marking field of 120mm x 120mm and the capacity to accommodate components up to 450mm x 150mm x 200mm in size, EasyMark II can process a diverse range of parts. An optional rotary axis provides further flexibility for marking around the circumference of cylindrical components.

EastMark II operates from a conventional 240 volt power socket, does not require any external cooling, and has the same safety rating as a CD player thanks to the fully enclosed (Class 1) marking area. The self contained and compact desktop configuration means that the unit is easily portable, allowing more freedom in the choice of location and operation.

Rofin’s Visual Laser Marker (VLM) Software allows the layout generation and transfer of the required marking data to be sent straight from the PC to the laser marker. Standard focusing and positioning aids ensure that the system can be easily operated following a short introduction and training course, whilst the programmable z-axis ensures that the laser is always optimally focussed.
