Mark Taggart Presents National Photonics Initiative Subcommittee White Paper in D.C.

On February 28, 2013, Laser Mechanisms' President, Mark Taggart, acting Chair of the National Photonics Initiative (NPI) - Advanced Manufacturing Subcommittee, presented a White Paper in Washington, D.C. advocating laser-driven manufacturing. The Advanced Manufacturing Subcommittee was joined by four other groups discussing the growing usage of lasers in health, communications, energy, manufacturing and defense during the day long National Academies' program.

Currently, the five working group white papers presented in Washington, D.C. are being compiled into one document that the laser and photonics community will use on Capitol Hill and within the Obama Administration to move the National Photonics Initiative forward. The target date for launch is Thursday, May 9, 2013, in a one hour webinar with the trade press.

"It was an honor to represent the laser industry in Washington, and I hope our subcommittee's efforts will provide a positive impact on the market, workforce and research challenges we all face," said Laser Mechanisms' President Mark Taggart.
