Small Area Solar Simulators for PV Cell Researchers

Oriel Instruments Presents a New Series of Highly Economic Solar Simulators

Oriel Instruments’ new series of LCS-100 solar simulators has been designed for PV cell researchers requiring the performance of a certified system over a small area of illumination. The 1.5 x 1.5 inch (38 x 38 mm) simulators meet Class ABB as defined by ASTM, IEC and JIS standards. The compact design features an integrated power supply, ignitor, homogenizer and lamp housing. Thanks to the simple “drop-in” lamp assembly, Oriel’s LCS-100 Series requires no lamp alignment.

The LCS-100 Series generates over 1 sun irradiance with an AM1.5G filter. With the integrated variable attenuator, users can reduce the irradiance to achieve 1 sun. As the lamp ages, the attenuator can be opened to allow continued 1 sun operation over the entire 1,000 hours of the lamp’s lifetime. Researchers requiring partial sun irradiance can simply dial down the attenuator to the desired irradiance level.

“Compared to our well-proven Oriel 96000 Solar Simulator, the LCS-100 Series offers better performance as well as a simpler design with a smaller footprint for the same price”, says Adnan Adla, Product Line Manager for Oriel Instruments at Newport-Spectra-Physics in Darmstadt, Germany. “We are happy to provide PV cell researchers with a cost efficient solution that meets all of their current demands.”

The design of the LCS-100 series is based on simplicity and economy. All electronics are built into the lamp housing and are factory pre-set to run the 100 W Xe lamp with integrated reflector at the proper current and voltage. Replacement lamp assemblies simply drop in place with no lamp adjustment required.
