TRUMPF - Forty years of service to UK manufacturers

TRUMPF Limited celebrated an important milestone in March. The company is 40 years old in 2014 and it commemorated the achievement in style with local and diplomatic dignitaries, members of the managing board, key customers and, of course, the staff who have been instrumental in the TRUMPF UK success story.

TRUMPF established its wholly owned subsidiary in St. Albans in 1974 to introduce its unique brand of metalworking machines to the UK market. Initially the company had five employees and in its first year turned over £450,000. Fast growth prompted its move to Luton in 1989. Today, TRUMPF Limited has almost 100 employees, an annual turnover of more than £45 million and is currently on course for its best trading year ever.

On Monday 10th March 2014 the celebration day started with a reception for the trade press to introduce new and groundbreaking TRUMPF technology. This was followed by formal presentations led by Managing Director of TRUMPF Limited, Scott Simpson; Chair of the TRUMPF Managing Board, Dr Nicola Leibinger-Kammueller and the Chargé D’Affaires from the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany, Mr. Joerg Ranau.

In her address Dr Leibinger-Kammueller proudly confirmed: “TRUMPF UK is flourishing and successful in every sense and the UK is now one of our top ten most important markets worldwide.” She also added that while there had been no clear economic trends for the TRUMPF Group in the last two years the fog is now lifting. There has been consistent growth for the last four months so the outlook is good.

This message was echoed by Managing Director of TRUMPF Limited, Scott Simpson. He confirmed that the order intake in December 2013 and during the first two months of this year put the company on course for another record year. And his optimism was further endorsed by the results of the Open House that followed the 40 year celebration day.

From Tuesday 11th March to Thursday 13th March TRUMPF showcased its latest manufacturing systems at its Luton Technology Centre. Around 300 members of the manufacturing community attended the event and TRUMPF is pleased to confirm eight orders were received over the three days.

“We introduced brand new technology to UK manufacturers this week. It’s called BrightLine fibre and it’s a real game-changer in the production of metal goods,” concluded Scott Simpson. “So it is especially apt for us to say that TRUMPF has had a bright past and will have a bright future based on continued product innovation and investment in the training of tomorrow’s engineers.”
