AMADA Announces a Breakthrough Product in Collaboration with U.S.-Based Company JDSU

Global Debut at FABTECH 2013
An official unveiling highlighted the introduction of an extremely versatile laser cutting system that features the latest advances in fibre laser technology.

Mitsuo Okamoto, President and CEO, officially announced the introduction of AMADA’s latest and most versatile fibre laser cutting system – ENSIS 3015 AJ. The unveiling marks a milestone in fibre laser technology and sets a new global standard for fibre laser performance. ENSIS is equipped with an innovative variable system. A 2kW fibre laser oscillator and special optical components are engineered to work in synergy, thereby drastically increasing performance. In fact, the combined efforts of AMADA and JDSU have resulted in a 2kW system that produces the power and beam efficiency equivalent to that of conventional 4kW fibre laser.

Conventional fibre laser cutting systems require changing the focus lens in order to cut a full range of material thicknesses. In marked contrast, ENSIS is engineered to automatically provide the optimal beam configuration based on the material being cut. Continuous processing, combined with automatic changes to beam configuration result in unprecedented productivity and versatility.

In addition, the oscillator is designed as an integrated module resulting in a size reduction of 50%. This integrated design allows ENSIS to deliver a high-power, high-quality laser beam in a remarkably small footprint — substantially improving shop floor efficiency and productivity.

ENSIS features:
• Integration of mechanical and electrical components into a single unit provide
maximum productivity while minimizing floor space requirements.
• Automatically produces optimal beam quality for a wide range of material
thicknesses — capable of cutting sheets with a material thickness up to 1˝ (25.4mm).
• Specifically engineered for sheet metal processing, the highly-efficient 2kW oscillator
provides cutting performance equivalent to a 4kW fibre laser.
• Full range cutting capability without lens change (ensures continuous automated
processing from thin-to-thick materials).
• Improved oscillator design provides increased energy efficiency (integrated design
also results in a size reduction of 50%).

The FOL 3015 AJ (introduced at the EuroBlech Sheet Metal Exhibition in Hannover, Germany in October 2010) was the first fibre laser cutting system developed and produced through the collaborative efforts of AMADA and JDSU. ENSIS (Latin for sword), represents the latest joint project between the two companies to develop and refine laser cutting systems specifically designed for cutting sheet metal (patent jointly held between AMADA and JDSU). To date, AMADA has sold over 200 fibre laser cutting systems worldwide — reflecting a steady growth in fibre laser technology. In addition to the FOL 3015 AJ, AMADA’s line of fibre laser cutting systems include ENSIS, FLC-4020AJ (to be named “FLCAJ 4020” in the US), FLCAJ 3015 and LCG 3015 AJ.
