Ideal for newcomers to laser welding

The new five-axis TruLaser Station 5005 is a space-saving, easy to operate machine for welding mild steel, stainless steel, aluminium, non-ferrous metals and plastics. These credentials and its affordable price make it a good choice for those who want to introduce cost-efficient laser welding into their production. Designed for low- to medium-volume work, the TruLaser Station 5005 is suitable for applications in medical and electrical sectors and throughout the precision engineering industry in general.

The TruLaser Station 5005 inherits the ergonomic qualities and process reliability of the popular TruMark Station 5000, the company’s mobile laser marking machine. Other advantages include its small footprint of 800 x 900mm2, convenient upward-sliding door and integrated dust collector. These space-saving qualities enable the machine to fit easily into any size of workshop. And the machine’s versatility extends to the beam source: depending on the application, it can be specified with the optimal TRUMPF disk, fibre, pulsed and diode laser with an output of up to one kW.

In addition to its three linear axes, the TruLaser Station 5005 has a rotary axis and a swivel axis for focusing the optics, permitting welding angles up to 120 degrees. All axes can be interpolated simultaneously, so that even parts with complex geometries can be joined easily. The working volume of 300 x 300 x 500mm provides sufficient room to process larger parts. And depending on the application, users can choose between fixed and scanning optics. Indeed this is one of the major advantages of the new machine by comparison with its forerunners.

Ease of use is another significant benefit of this machine. A tiltable control panel with touch screen, a process monitor and feed rate controller are used for programming. And the panel itself is mounted on a swivel arm that allows each operator to adjust its orientation to their specific requirements. The TruLaser Station 5005 can be operated from a seated or standing position, for example.

The all new control system has been optimised for welding applications and a teach function is incorporated to ensure that parts are joined perfectly at each weld spot. The operator has direct access to the control interface via the NC programme making it possible to manipulate a pneumatic clamping device, for example, or execute other peripheral functions. A remote diagnostic function is also provided to facilitate maintenance.
