OpTek Systems (Abingdon, UK) announces the formation of a wholly owned subsidiary OpTek Systems AP with new facilities in China

OpTek Systems is expanding operations in China, with the formation of OpTek Asia Pacific and the opening of a facility in Dongguan. The move follows period of sustained growth that has seen the Asian markets become a significant fraction of OpTek’s global business.

Business into the Asian markets has also been rapidly expanding through a range of unique laser micromachining tools. This success was recognised with a Queen’s Award for International Trade in 2011 and this trend for growth continues through into 2014.

The primary driver for business has been a growth is specialized tools for terminating optical fiber connectors, fuelled by rapid growth in the development and roll out of systems for optical data transfer and communications. OpTek’s leading position in this field has resulted in multiple sales across the manufacturing base in the region, setting the standard for optical fiber termination going forward.

The existing team in China has been augmented with additional personnel to support the growing installed base of equipment. The team has also established new offices and support facility for applications development and customer training in Dongguan.

In addition, OpTek has established a sales office in Singapore with a focus on precision laser micromachining. The team in Singapore will primarily support OpTek’s broader laser micromachining capabilities, supporting the precision engineering needs of customers across the semiconductor, micro-electronics, sensing and medical device sectors.

The expansion of operations in the region follows years of record growth globally, which has also seen the company expand into bigger premises in both the Europe and North America in response to growth in demand for production line equipment for precision laser micromachining and sub contract laser processing services.
