1000th Trumpf Trupunch 1000 rolls off the production line

Cutting, shaping, beading, nibbling, thread-forming, marking, deburring and embossing are just some of the possible applications for the innovative punching machines made by Trumpf. The TruPunch 1000 is no exception and it is this application diversity combined with its economical production and ease of use that has fuelled such high demand for this product.

Trumpf’s factory in Hettingen recently produced its thousandth TruPunch 1000 punching machine. Indeed, many of these models are now proving highly successful acquisitions for UK OEMs. Two of the most recent installations are at Sunflow, a manufacturer of specialist heating products and NCE Switchgear in Clydebank.

For NCE, the latest installation was its third TruPunch 1000, chosen on the proven track-record of its predecessors. In addition to punching electrical enclosures and related components, the machines provide NCE with the facility to form threads, make extrusions and bend flanges in a single clamping.

Sunflow is a first-time Trumpf user that has brought its sheet metalwork production in-house thanks to its investment in a TruPunch 1000. It has ensured consistent product quality and gives the company better control over production schedules. The machine’s ease of use was a decisive factor in its purchase.

The flexible tooling system is key to the application scope of the TruPunch 1000. Its linear magazine, designed to hold up to 18 tools, can be pre-loaded quickly and easily. Thanks to the machine’s 360° tool rotation – one of the important benefits of all Trumpf punching machines – the punching head can rotate any tool to any required angle; this is regardless of the tool’s shape, size or position in the magazine.

Not only does this lower set-up times and tool costs, it also allows more efficient use of materials. When combined with part nesting, tool rotation opens up a wealth of production possibilities. And by using Trumpf Multitools, which integrate up to ten different punch and die inserts in a single tool holder, processing potential is increased even further.

To help manufacturers to get the best return on their Trumpf investment, such as the best choice of tooling, the company opened its TruServices Centre in Luton in March. It will provide a wide range of support services for UK manufacturers, including training. The facility was officially opened at the company’s Open House.
