ROFIN celebrates 40th anniversary

For 40 years, ROFIN has consistently developed new fields of applications with its innovative laser and process technologies, and is today one of the market leaders for state-of-the-art laser technology in the industrial material processing sector. ROFIN will be celebrating its anniversary at this year's LASER World of Photonics with new releases across the entire breadth of its extensive product portfolio. Under the motto "40 Years of Successful Partnerships", innovations in multi-kilowatt fiber and diode lasers, ultrashort pulse laser sources, UV marking lasers and 3D marking solutions, will be on show at the laser specialist's 400 m²-large booth.

Multi-kilowatt power for all technologies

Recent decades have been marked by steady developments in laser material processing, as well as in the requirements that have to be met by laser sources. With the development of its diffusion-cooled CO2 Slab laser, ROFIN has played a major role in shaping the success story of industrial laser cutting. Today, the company is the only vendor of CO2, fiber lasers and diode lasers all in the multi-kilowatt range. From its 3rd generation of high-power fiber lasers, ROFIN will be debuting the 8 kW model at LASER 2015. This laser ideally covers the increasingly demanding market requirements for industrial welding and cutting. With its new fiber-coupled diode laser with 6 kW output power, ROFIN has once again systematically expanded its product range, and is now able to offer an ideal laser source capable of coping with all the industrial challenges associated with hardening, soldering or cladding.

New industrial ultrashort pulse laser in hybrid MOPA design

ROFIN's newly developed ultrashort pulse lasers StarFemto (700 fs, 20 W) and StarPico (15 ps, 50 W) are the result of over a decade's experience in realizing industrial ultrashort pulse solutions. Both laser sources build on the advanced development of ROFIN's hybrid MOPA technology, which combines the robustness, high pulse frequencies and outstanding laser quality of fiber lasers with the scalable performance of rod lasers. Visitors to the trade fair will be able to see ROFIN's patented SmartCleaveTM FI glass cutting process in action with the StarPico.

3D marking and new UV and short pulse markers
The laser specialist will be presenting a 3D marking solution for free-form surfaces at LASER 2015. This new marking software ensures a geometrically correct reproduction of the marking layout even on curved or irregularly shaped surfaces, and also incorporates a 3D correction field. ROFIN's new UV laser from its PowerLine Series, on the other hand, allows the marking of plastics and structuring on glass or ceramic surfaces at extremely fast processing speeds, such as are required for short-cycle industrial production processes.

Innovative laser technology for new application fields

For 40 years, ROFIN has always focussed on the application in the development of its laser technologies. Long-standing partnerships and good customer relationships all over the world are characteristic of the laser pioneer. Some projects remain experimental, such as the cutting of frozen cakes, while many others have opened up new fields of application, including the perforation of cigarette filter papers with 750,000 holes per second, laser welding of tailored blanks for the automotive industry, or corrosion-proof marking of medical instruments. Today, every smartphone contains at least one application fulfilled with ROFIN lasers.
