Spectra-Physics doubles power of industrial femtosecond lasers with breakthrough cost-performance

Spectra-Physics® introduces Spirit One™ 1040-8, a compact, industrial femtosecond laser with game-changing cost-performance. Combining power supply and laser head in a single rugged and compact package, Spirit One 1040-8 is easy to integrate into machine tools and systems and delivers proven stability and long term reliability. The new laser is perfect for demanding, high precision applications including microsurgery, femtosecond micromachining, and medical device manufacturing.

“With an unprecedented combination of femtosecond performance, cost, size, and reliability, Spirit One 1040-8 transforms the market for femtosecond medical and industrial laser applications,” says Klaus Madlener, general manager of Spectra-Physics Rankweil. “The new laser is another major addition to our highly successful, market-leading portfolio of industrial femtosecond lasers.”

Spirit One 1040-8 provides 8 W average power and >40 µJ pulse energy at 1040 nm with repetition rates up to 1 MHz. A second harmonic generation (SHG) option is available for software selectable 520 nm or 1040 nm output. Spirit One 1040-8 offers process flexibility with an adjustable pulse duration option, allowing the user to freely chose pulse durations from <400 fs to 4 ps by software in seconds. A picosecond model, Spirit One ps 1040-10, is also available with 13 ps pulse width, >10 W output power, and >50 µJ pulse energy. Spirit One is an “It’s in the Box™” laser that integrates laser head and power supply into a single lightweight and compact unit. The laser includes an integrated pulse picker for fast pulse selection and power control for high process throughput.

Spirit One 1040-8 and Spirit One ps 1040-10 build on the proven and widely deployed Spirit and Spirit One industrial laser platforms and have passed extensive environmental qualification testing to ensure high reliability. Fully automated and computer controlled, the laser has exceptional power and beam pointing stability during 24/7 operation, ensuring high precision and reproducibility for demanding applications.
