Spectra-Physics launches high energy industrial femtosecond laser

Spectra-Physics introduces Spirit HE, a new line of high energy, versatile industrial femtosecond lasers. With pulse energies of >120 µJ, three times that of previous lasers, and average output powers of >16 W, Spirit HE results in fast micromachining of a wide range of materials without unwanted heat damage to the processed part. The laser also offers process flexibility with programmable pulse energy, repetition rate, and pulse width. Spirit HE is ideal for microelectronics, clean energy, medical devices, automotive, and other industrial manufacturing applications.

“With its high performance, programmable parameters, and proven rugged reliability, Spirit HE is powerful and versatile workhorse for 24/7 industrial micromachining applications,” says Daniel Achenbach, product manager at Spectra-Physics Rankweil. “The three times higher pulse energy of 120 µJ enables higher aspect ratios in drilling applications and five times higher cutting speed for polymers.”

Spirit HE provides flexibility with pulse energy and repetition rate adjustability from single shot to 1 MHz. Options are also available for adjustable pulse duration, allowing the user to freely chose pulse durations from <400 fs to 10 ps by software in seconds, and integrated second harmonic generation (SHG), for software selectable 520 nm or 1040 nm output. The SHG option of Spirit HE offers >60 µJ at 520 nm for highest precision applications and smallest geometries. The laser includes an integrated pulse picker for fast pulse selection and power control for high process throughput.

Spirit HE is the newest member in the proven and widely deployed Spirit industrial product family. It has passed extensive environmental qualification testing to ensure high reliability.
Fully automated and computer controlled, Spirit HE has exceptional power and beam pointing stability during 24/7 operation, ensuring high precision and reproducibility for demanding applications.
