LXR 100 - the first femtosecond laser from Luxinar

LXR 100, the first femtosecond laser from Luxinar, has been added to the company’s product portfolio, meaning Luxinar now produces ultrashort pulse lasers in addition to sealed CO2 laser sources.

The ultrashort laser has revolutionised materials processing. The extremely short pulse width of the laser virtually eliminates heat diffusion to the surroundings of the processed region, minimising the formation of a heat-affected zone (HAZ), and enabling ultrahigh precision micro- and nanofabrication of various components. Furthermore, the high peak power enables novel modes of processing within the bulk of the material rather than restricting interaction with the material surface. Most applications for ultrafast lasers are currently found in consumer electronics, medical, automotive, research, aerospace and defence. However, the potential scope is vast and many applications are still in their infancy.

The LXR 100 is capable of a large dynamic range of average powers, pulse energies and operating modes. The pulse width is between 900 ± 100fs, with a pulse repetition frequency between single shot and 40MHz, and a maximum rated pulse energy of 100µJ. Burst mode and pulse on demand are available. The controller has been developed to ensure the necessary functionality is available whilst ensuring high precision can be achieved.

The LXR 100 from Luxinar will be showcased on booth #4480 at SPIE Photonics West, taking place 4-6 February 2020 in San Francisco, USA.
