Trends in laser technology at LASYS exhibition

Process safety, precision micromaterial processing and new trends to be the focal points of the Stuttgart Laser Technology Forum during LASYS Highlights and innovations from laser production technology will bring together laser experts and users in Stuttgart for the fifth time from 4 to 6 March 2008. The Stuttgart Laser Technology Forum (SLT -Stuttgarter Lasertage- ) will then be held for the first time as part of LASYS, International Trade Fair for System Solutions in Laser Material Processing.

The transfer of knowledge will be the focal point of the Stuttgart Laser Technology Forum, which has become a key international event for users in the laser industry since it was first held in 1999. More than 350 participants, primarily from the industry, made use of this opportunity last year. The conception of LASYS was modelled on the long-term success of SLT and the accompanying technical exhibition.

Under the overall control of the "Forschungsgesellschaft für Strahlwerkzeuge" (FGSW) in Stuttgart, SLT 2008 will present the latest trends and best practice examples for the use of lasers in material processing and methods for transferring technology to industrial production practice. The key topics will be process safety during laser-based production, removing precision micromaterial processing and users' experiences with the application of brilliant laser sources (in particular disc lasers and fibre lasers). New trends from laser development, beam shaping and beam control will provide an outlook on future-generation laser technology. "Thanks to the cooperation with the LASYS trade fair, the Stuttgart Laser Technology Forum will attain new heights and contain a unique competence pool of industrial system solutions and user-oriented, scientific and technical know-how", said Prof. Friedrich Dausinger, Head of FGSW in Stuttgart, with conviction.

The series of talks during the Stuttgart Laser Technology Forum is also due to the excellent cooperation between "Stuttgart Laser Technologies", i.e. a group of Stuttgart-based research and technology organisations, the organisers of SLT - Institut für Strahlwerkzeuge (IFSW) at Stuttgart University, Forschungsgesellschaft für Strahlwerkzeuge mbH (FGSW) and Technologiegesellschaft für Strahlwerkzeuge mbH (TGSW) – and leading laser manufacturers and users. These activities play a major role in making the use of laser processes more widespread in manufacturing industry. This is continually reflected in the excellent technical programme of the Stuttgart Laser Technology Forum and is manifested by the newly established programme advisory panel comprising leading industry representatives. "As far as we are concerned, the Stuttgart Laser Technology Forum is the most important technical conference for the latest laser material processing topics in production", said Berthold Hopf, Head of the Material and Production Technology Department at Mercedes-Benz and one of the SLT advisory panel members, in reference to the importance of the event for industrial practice.
