New CO2 Laser Offers Increased Reliability for Plastics and Organics Processing

Santa Clara, Calif., September 14, 2009 – A new CO2 laser from Coherent, Inc. (Santa Clara, CA) (Nasdaq: COHR) offers greater reliability and reduced cost of ownership for applications involving processing of textiles, organic materials, plastics and even thin metals. The DIAMOND™ E-150 is a slab discharge CO2 laser that delivers 150W (at 1 kHz repetition rate) at a wavelength of 10.6 µm, while offering excellent beam quality (M2<1.2) and high output stability (<±7%). Based on Coherent’s G-Series platform, this new laser incorporates advances in the RF power supply design to reduce part count by 70%. As a result, the DIAMOND E 150 is expected to deliver a MTBF of over 60,000 hours, and is backed by a 24-month warranty. Furthermore, the DIAMOND E-150 is the smallest product of this type currently available on the market.

The unique combination of superior beam quality, fast pulse rise time, high peak power and exceptional reliability make the DIAMOND E-150 a market enabling source for a wide range of processing applications. These include cutting of textiles, natural leather, plastics and thin metals, converting of plastic films and papers, ceramic scribing and wood engraving. The compact size of the DIAMOND E-150 enables its use in a variety of settings, and even permits its use in systems small enough for the desktop.
