Laser Cutting PETG Sheets

Laser cutting is a material process ideally suited when applied to PETG, as used to create blister packaging, display units and bottles. Many food and pharmaceutical products are packaged in PETG because of its purity. When considering material specifications for products that will require CO2 laser processing during manufacturing such as cutting, drilling, or degating, PETG achieves a cleanly cut edge with no yellowing or discoloration. Using a Synrad Firestar laser, at a power level of 100 watts, cut speeds of 1.9 meters/minute were achieved. Edge quality, as shown in the photo, is clean with a slight amount of underside dross.
